Work & Pleasure

This furniture portmanteau combines a functional bookshelf with a concealed bar cabinet.

Interwoven diagonal shelves provide 10.5 inches of vertical clearance, accommodating a wide range of standard book sizes. At the center of the piece sit two hinged doors that open to four separate cabinet spaces. The lower compartments are angled and ideal for canned or bottled beverages, while the upper compartments are suited for storing glassware or bar accessories.

A clear acrylic top allows light to pass through the structure, illuminating both the shelves and interior cabinets while offering an additional surface for barware or personal items.

All of the wood used in the piece was cut from a single 8’ × 4’ sheet of plywood using Tulane’s CNC router.
